Jeannette Griffith Congdon started her practice in February 1993 in Fuquay-Varina and Raleigh, North Carolina after working for the insurance defense firm of Teague, Campbell, Dennis & Gorham of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Jeannette is a member of the Florida, Georgia and North Carolina Bars, having taken and passed bar exams in all three states. She is presently a member of the Wake County Bar Association, the North Carolina Bar Association, and the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgia State University in June 1973, majoring in Spanish, with a minor in Secondary Education. In June 1988, she received her Juris Doctor from Georgia State University College of Law. Jeannette is fluent in Spanish, having been raised in a bilingual family.
Before practicing law, Jeannette had an extensive background in the insurance claims industry. She began a twelve-year career in insurance in 1977, as an independent claims adjuster, subsequently worked as a senior claims representative, a claims supervisor, an assistant claims superintendent, and a claim executive for the following companies: Cotton States Mutual Insurance Co., U. S. F. & G., and General Reinsurance Corporation, all located in Atlanta, Georgia. Her experience has been in multi-line property and casualty claims, including workers' compensation, with a heavy emphasis on automobile and general liability. Additionally, she acted as the State Structured Settlement Coordinator for U.S.F. & G. While she was employed with General Reinsurance as a claim executive, she was also in the private practice of law and served as a Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission for the City of Berkeley Lake, Georgia and later as a member of the City of Duluth, Georgia Planning and Zoning Commission.
During her three plus years as an associate at Teague, Campbell, Dennis & Gorham, Jeannette practiced in the areas of torts, contracts, worker's compensation, worker’s compensation lien cases, declaratory judgment actions, insurance coverage issues, and subrogation.
When Jeannette started her own firm on February 1, 1993, she represented plaintiffs in initiating claims and filing suit against responsible parties. She continued to practice insurance defense litigation and represented the insureds of various companies, including but not limited to Fireman’s Fund Ins. Co., North Carolina Insurance Guaranty Association, GAB Robbins, Inc., Allstate Insurance Co., and the North Carolina League of Municipalities.
Although she loves the court room she has been particularly interested in alternative dispute resolution. She volunteered for training in the Wake County District Court’s pilot arbitration program and served as an arbitrator for court-assigned cases. In addition, she completed mediation training at the Duke University Private Adjudication Center and is a certified mediator in the State of North Carolina.
